Toontrack - Superior Drummer 3 Library Update v1.3.0
Release notes for Superior Drummer 3.4.0
CHANGES
General
Minimum OS requirements have been raised to macOS 10.13 and Windows 10.
EZdrummer 3 user presets will now show up in the preset menu.
Plug-in parameters are now named like the macros that they control.
Mouse wheel step sizes have been changed for most knobs and sliders (though this does not affect βsmooth mouse wheels,β such as trackpads). If Shift is pressed, the step/change will be smaller.
β50%β has been added to the available GUI scales.
The loading bar now flashes when sounds finish loading instead of when they start loading.
Song Track
Double-clicking on a song block no longer moves the playhead to the beginning of the block if the playhead is already over the block.
βPaste on Selected Grooveβ now repeats the copied MIDI to fill the entire length of the selected groove.
Unmapped notes are now drawn above mapped ones instead of not at all.
The tempo button is now disabled when Follow Host is active.
The audio export dialog now allows for adding a name prefix. For example βMy Songβ will generate files like βMy Song_Out_1+2.wav.β
The audio export dialog now has an option βReplace existing filesβ (default on).
Drums Tab
In certain EZXs with an electronic kick, replacing the kick with an acoustic kick will now keep the electronic kick graphics because the other kick would be too large.
Audio import is no longer possible on Future Hit instruments.
The Velocity Curve and Velocity Gate are now disabled for Future Hit instruments (since they are not made for such velocity modifications).
Grooves Tab
The result view rows have been made larger.
Linking/syncing folders now shows a progress screen.
Clicking in empty space below folders will now deselect everything in that column.
Added a βSelect/Deselectβ menu option for folders.
βShow MIDI Files from Subfoldersβ option is now global instead of being saved per project.
Changes within user folders in the OS will now be detected so that the βunsynced filesβ icon pops up on affected folders.
New design in the result view for when an empty User MIDI folder is selected.
Unmapped notes are now drawn above mapped ones and with a lower opacity instead of not at all.
You can now use Cmd/Ctrl-C shortcut to copy a groove from the result list.
Filter selection logic has been updated. Mainly, clicking (without keyboard modifiers) on an already selected filter will now deselect it if it is the only selected filter in the column, but if there are multiple, the clicked filter will become the only selected filter.
Tap2Find
When MIDI from the Song Track is used with Tap2Find, the time signature from the Song Track is used now instead of from the original MIDI file.
Grid Editor
The state of expanded rows is now saved in projects and will also be retained when switching presets within the same library.
E-Drums
Added presets: Alesis Strata Core, Alesis Strata Prime, ddrum DDTi, EFNOTE 3, EFNOTE 5, EFNOTE 7, Roland SPD-SX PRO, Roland TD-02, Roland TD-07, Roland TM-2, Roland V71, Simmons Titan 70.
Installation
On Mac, deleting a plug-in or the standalone from disk and running the software installer will no longer deselect it by default on the Customize page. To stop installing a certain plug-in format, you will now need to run the uninstaller first, then deselect the format in the installer.
BUG FIXES
General
In Studio One on Mac with the βgraphics hardware accelerationβ option enabled, the GUI should no longer be slow and choppy.
In Logic Pro on Apple silicon Macs, MIDI Out should no longer cause crashes.
In Apple hosts on Apple silicon Macs, the mouse cursor could in some cases become stuck being the wrong kind of cursor, for example in the Grid Editor after duplicating notes using Alt-drag.
Added workarounds for ACID Pro so that the VST 3 would produce sound there and be able to receive MIDI from the host.
βSave a Copyβ did not work correctly β any subsequent normal βSaveβ would write to the copy instead of to the original file (or instead of showing a save dialog if the project had not been normally saved yet).
In Pro Tools, setting a new default project in SD3 and adding a new instance (in the same session) would not use the new default project.
In Pro Tools, trying to switch to a larger GUI scale could in some cases cause a crash.
On Mac, opening the plug-in window in certain hosts could cause a crash if the window size had previously been set very, very large.
Canceling βSave MIDI Learn Presetβ could sometimes cause a crash.
Several bug fixes for Undo History.
The host was in many cases not notified when something changed inside the plug-in.
Controls controlled by MIDI Learn while the plug-in window was closed did not always show the correct values when the window was opened again.
Loading a project using a missing library could in some case cause a crash.
Loading a project while playing in the Grooves browser and also having a Tap2Find groove loaded could cause a crash.
On Mac in scales other than 100%, text did not have exactly the intended width (kerning), in some cases causing for example button texts to not fit.
Audio Engine
For some unusual block sizes at 44.1 kHz sample rate, MIDI events were not rendered at the correct time.
Certain MIDI sequences caused the choking of sounds through Channel Aftertouch not to work.
Using a host that can send negative sample positions (like Cubase) no longer causes cracks and pops when playback is started at such negative times.
Song Track
While recording in a loop in a DAW, SD3 could incorrectly show a Similar MIDI alert when looping back.
Resizing the left side of a block could in some rare cases mute some of the first hits in that block.
During recording, all pre-existing CC changes on the track were ignored. Now this is only done for controllers that have got new values.
Certain microphones not directly related to specific instruments would not get included in audio exports.
βSelect Containing Folder in Groovesβ should now work properly even after opening a project on a different computer or after performing βRestore MIDI Databaseβ in Settings.
Moving the playhead using keyboard shortcuts now properly takes time signature changes into account.
AT blocks could be incorrectly merged when a project was loaded.
Duplicating more than one loop at a time on the song track could in some cases cause a crash.
Edit Play Style
Amount didnβt always use the correct time signature when adding notes.
Moving Power Hand from a ride to a crash cymbal could make the notes play on articulation βBowβ although the Power Hand sign said βCrash.β
If no note was mapped to the first articulation of an instrument, moving the Power Hand sign could make wrong notes be played.
Closing Edit Play Style from the View menu or with a keyboard shortcut did not close the Power Hand or Opening Hit articulation menu if it was open.
Opening Edit Play Style with the Route Instrument Microphones window being open would draw the blue Edit Play Style border on top of that window.
Grid Editor
Loading a project with the grid editor set to triplet snap did not result in the correct grid line resolution.
Playing in the DAW with Follow Host on so that the song track length was extended did not graphically update and expand the Grid Editor.
Adjacent MIDI blocks are no longer merged when a note is added and the new note does not actually overlap both blocks.
After copying notes using Cmd/Ctrl-drag, the wrong set of notes was selected.
Changing note selection with keyboard shortcut would discard any timing modifications added to previous selection and would instead apply them to the newly selected note.
The Exclude feature in the Select menu should now work properly.
Pasting Future Hit notes in the grid would always paste them as immediate hits.
Pasting Future Hit notes would sometimes paste them offset from the playhead, making the new notes play out of time.
When percussion notes from a non-expanded percussion row were moved or copy-dragged to another non-expanded percussion row, all articulations were set to the first articulation of the new instrument.
Keyboard shortcuts for Solo/Mute when all rows of an expanded instrument are selected now work the same way as when clicking the buttons.
The text βSelect βEnable Curveβ to apply and edit CC curveβ on disabled CC editors is now properly centered and no longer scrolls with the CC editor.
In CC editors, tooltips would stop working after a mouse press on a node with a tooltip (until the mouse was moved out from the view).
After loading a project with the CC editor active, switching to the AT editor and trying to move AT blocks would duplicate them instead of moving them.
Removing a MIDI block from the song track did not graphically remove contained AT blocks from the Channel AT editor.
Inserting a new AT block that would increase the length of the MIDI block could incorrectly make a preceding AT block longer.
Opening Grid Editor with the Route Instrument Microphones window being open would draw the blue Grid Editor border on top of that window.
Drums Tab
Replacing an instrument using alternating hit patterns with a different one could make unexpected articulations be used.
The stack view did not show visual hits on the main drum of the first articulation, if triggered by a trigger articulation.
On Mac, Alt-click now works to reset the Velocity Gate slider (instead of Cmd-click).
Hi-hat trigger articulation hits were not shown in the Velocity Curve property box.
Changing the instrument selection between certain types of instruments would cause the βPitch FXβ property box to not be properly updated.
βMIDI Monitorβ box settings are now saved in projects.
Clicking on an instrument (or an articulation in the articulation menu) with no sound loaded would show the βinstrument not loadedβ icon both when the mouse was pressed and when it was released β now only when pressed.
Search for Instrument
Changing libraries or loading a project will no longer reset the browser to default layout.
The filter resizer position is now properly remembered every time Search for Instrument is opened.
The selected drum is now always shown in the list.
βReplace Other Positionβ no longer has the option to select Future Hit instruments.
The submenus of the articulation menus are now disabled if Search for Instrument was opened for a Future Hit instrument.
The main state of Search for Instrument is no longer changed when doing other things by using the right-click/More menu. For example, if the browser was opened to replace a drum, adding a stack by using the right-click menu, the browser will still act as a browser for replacing a drum, not for replacing the newly added stack.
The options βReplace Without Stackingβ and βStack Without Closingβ are no longer available if βAdd Instrumentβ was used to open Search for Instrument.
Clicking on different instruments would potentially cause a crash (if using more than 1 core in Settings > Performance).
Grooves Tab
While previewing a groove, moving the playhead by clicking in the bar now moves it more precisely.
Previewing MIDI files will now properly set CC values that were activated before the current playhead time.
User MIDI In/E-Drum Presets were not applied correctly on User MIDI (for playback in the browser).
Using arrow keys to navigate could in some cases cause a crash.
Using File > New will now properly update the grooves browser result list.
Loading a project will now properly update the active/inactive states of folders based on active filters.
Excluding a folder will no longer disable all filters.
Clicking the favorite button while connecting to Webshop MIDI could cause a crash.
Performing βRestore MIDI Databaseβ in the Advanced tab in Settings now properly turns off Webshop MIDI.
Changing the GUI scale no longer removes the βSelected folder is emptyβ dialog if it is shown. Also, the dialog will be removed as soon as a new search is performed.
The list of suggested words when writing in the search field is no longer reversed with every letter typed.
Tap2Find
Changing libraries while playing the Tap2Find groove would not continue playback properly.
Opening Tap2Find now closes the Route Instrument Microphones window if it is open.
Going back and forward in the Grooves browser would quantize the Tap2Find search MIDI.
Dragging unsupported files will no longer highlight the Tap2Find drop zone as a valid drop target.
Mixer
Percussion instrument mics were not routed properly by Multichannel in the Mixer menu.
The Solo states for buses were not saved in projects.
Inserting a new effect in the mixer was not possible to undo.
Removing effects when multiple channels were selected could cause a crash if some of the channels had no effects or if the number of displayed effect rows would be decreased.
All gain reduction meters in the effects have been made more consistent.
Loading a βDrums and Mixerβ preset without the mixer part did not update the mixer, even though extra mics could have been added when the new drums were loaded.
Selecting βNoneβ as mixer channel output would always make bus 32 visible.
Loading a βDrums and Mixerβ preset with option βKeep Output Routing on Preset Changeβ now properly shows all output channels that are in use.
Tracker
Moving the mouse over onsets could in some rare case lead to a crash.
Scrolling, auto-scrolling and auto-scrolling being off should now work the same way as on the song track.
Settings
Conflicts in keyboard shortcuts were not shown on all involved shortcuts.
Opening Settings while playing MIDI could cause a crash.
After adding an SDX in Settings, the library would not immediately be possible to remove.
In MIDI In/E-Drums, if an instrument filter was selected from the menu and then an instrument selected from the list, the velocity curve would not respond to incoming MIDI.
Standalone
Trying to open a project file from Finder/Explorer while a native file/folder selection dialog was open in the standalone could cause a crash.
